Pride is a Sin and it says so here in Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything.” Paul was referring to not straying from the teachings of the gospel and not being God centred due to the anxiety and pressures of discipling and and Hannah prayed in 1 Sam 2:3, “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed”
Pride caused Uzziah to act foolish [foolish pride] and go where he didn’t belong, it caused him leprosey and separated him from everything and everyone until he died.
We always hear people say “all glory goes to God” “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 and it wasn’t too long ago that we read about the only thing we should boast about is the Lord … Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.” also 1 Corinthians…when we are proud and full of angst we are thinking about ourselves and when we put trust in ourselves and cling to fears it means we’re not putting trust in God and that is the pathway to downfall. For those with anxiety issues this could be more challenging but all the more reason to cling to Him.
I sure sound like I got it all together… but just like anybody reading this I have been known to pat myself on the back here and there when I now realize I should just keep my hands at my side and let the Lord recognize that I appreciate my abilities through Him.
It’s OK to be proud of your love for the Lord and it’s OK to be proud of your loved ones accomplishments and it’s OK to tell somebody that you’re proud of them but to be proud of oneself without recognizing the joy of the Lord within that is self-centredness.
