Mark 8: 34 And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 35 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.
This passage has struck my heart today. I always think about sacrifice when it comes to my faith. Showing loving sacrifice for others is the most powerful testament to the truth of God and Christ. We saw the sacrifice of Jesus and his Apostles, they were all willing to die for the truth.
After Jesus died many claimed He did not rise and Jesus’s followers were lying. One defense of many for our faith is the sacrifice of the early followers, especially the 12 apostles.
If warly Christ followers were lying and Jesus had not risen the disciples would have likely folded when their lives were threatened. People don’t die for something they know is untrue. They don’t defend a lie with their lives.
But they remained firm unto death. Jesus was trying to prepare His closests followers for the trails they would face for their faith in Him. From their sacrifice and teachings they shared with us mamy lessons. Now we can all learn how to be new people in one spirit.
