Exodus 30: 16 You shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may bring the people of Israel to remembrance before the Lord, so as to make atonement for your lives.
The Israelites were called to make financial tithes to attone for their sins.
God Himself doesn’t need the money but as this verse highlights the tithe, in this context, had three functions:
1) It attoned for the people’s sins
2) It supported the upkeeping of the priests and the equipment of the tabernacle
3) It was to remind the people of God’s provision.
Our tithing today functions the same way, aside from the attonement aspect. Our giving helps God’s kingdom here on Earth by supporting our churches: their buildings and programming that helps our society’s most vunerable members.
It also helps us align our hearts to God. If we are grateful and trusting of His provisions, giving of our earnings is a good way to show the intentionally of our claims.
I pray all of you have a blessed day today. Stay strong and faithful and remember God’s children are the primary route in which He administers hope and care to our world.
