I find it fascinating that my mind can go back to something as frivolous as a toy cap gun that I lost and missed when I was 5, perhaps I subconsciously still do miss it.
Since I have come to know and love Christ, I have learned even beyond my minimalistic nature, to hold on to things loosely.
“And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions”
Why are we wired for the attraction to material accumulation? Why do we have to have “stuff”, collections etc.. anything beyond our needs and gift related interested and hobbies.
Of course none of the above would overshadow the Lord, because then that would be covetous.
I watch our pet rats gather take and hide food… they KNOW where the food dish is.. but they still hoard and stash… that’s because they are wired to not know where the next meal is coming from.. they have no God connection. No faith of provision.
“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.”
We go through a mid-life “crisis”?!? because we think our life is half over and there’s so much we didn’t do, didn’t get, didn’t HAVE.
And yet none of that important “stuff” can make it through the narrow passageway.
1 Timothy 6:7
“For we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world”
It sounds cliché but the best things in life are free.
Real treasure comes with eternal life in Gods kingdom.
Hold onto things loosely so we don’t forget who’s holding us tightly!
